Apartment Hunting

rachel-berry-senior-year:

Rachel was so happy that they were leaving for New York for the weekend, she and Finn had led the New Directions to victory at Nationals. Graduation and the wedding were both coming up, which meant that soon they’d be in New York more permanently. They switched into her car to save gas, and soon they were on the way to New York to find an apartment. She held his hand as he drove, and she nodded when he said to let him drive when they got closer to New York. “I know baby, I planned it out. I’m going to drive three hours after you drive two, and then you’ll drive two more hours and I’ll drive one before you do the last hour or two. This way I won’t be driving at night and you won’t have to drive the whole way,” she said. She knew that he was nervous for her to drive since her car accident, and she didn’t really want to drive in New York anyways. When they went for real to New York they weren’t going to bring a car, so it would be easy for them to get around by public transit. “It’ll be romantic. We’ll find somewhere we both like,” she said when he told her that he was excited to find the perfect place. She nodded when he asked if they were going to check out their schools while they were there. “I definitely want to see NYADA, I was thinking we’d find an apartment Saturday and do that Sunday morning before we leave,” she told him with a smile. “I can’t believe we’re really doing this, going to New York by ourselves after graduation,” she told him, watching the farms and factories of Ohio roll by.

“That sounds perfect,” Finn said with a smile when Rachel told him that she had planned out when they would be driving and for how long. He was so excited that they were really going to New York to look at their apartment and he was happy that this actually happening, they were going to be in New York together and get everything that they ever wanted. When she told him that it would be romantic and that they would find somewhere they both liked, he glanced over at her with a small smile on his face. “As long as it can fit a bed big enough so my legs don’t hang off the end, I’ll be happy,” he said with a laugh, knowing that although their apartment was going to be small, it was going to be theirs and something about that made him even more excited. When she said that she definitely wanted to see NYADA, he smiled, nodding when she said that they could find an apartment Saturday and looking at schools on Sunday before they left. “I know, I can’t believe we’re really doing this either,” he said, squeezing her hand gently, running his thumb over her soft skin. “We’re going to get married so soon, I can’t wait,” he whispered, just thinking about the fact that their wedding was getting closer was making him so happy and he knew that it was going to be the best day of his life. “I love you Rachel,” he said softly, bringing her hand to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss to the back of it, glancing over at her with a small smile on his face before he returned his focus to the road ahead of him, sighing contently, knowing that their future was going to be absolutely perfect.

Apartment Hunting

rachel-berry-senior-year:

Rachel packed her bag Wednesday night, preparing for her and Finn’s weekend trip to New York to look for an apartment this weekend. It didn’t take her long, since she already had her outfits planned, and she put her suitcase underneath her desk. Knowing that they were going to New York made her so excited, they were really going to be moving after graduation and she couldn’t have been more excited to finally be there again. School seemed to drag on forever Thursday and Friday, but finally they got out. She and Finn drove back to her house to get her suitcase and switch to her car since it got better gas mileage. They started driving towards New York, her hand laced together with his while he drove. “We’ll switch in two hours, that way we won’t have to take too many long breaks. We won’t be too late getting there anyways, as long as traffic is okay,” she told him, knowing that she wasn’t going to let him drive the whole way there himself. “I’m excited to find us a romantic little shoebox apartment, and to just be with you in my favorite city,” she said.

Finn was so excited to finally be going to New York for the weekend with Rachel so they could look at apartments. He packed quickly on Friday morning before school, knowing that he had to have this ready so he could drive him and Rachel right back to her house so they could get her car and head to New York. It was crazy that this was really happening, they had won Nationals, they were graduating soon and their wedding was getting closer everyday and he knew that there was nothing more amazing then that. Once school was over, they went to Rachel’s house and switched to her car, grabbing her suitcase before they were on the road to New York. He smiled when her hand found his, glancing over at her lovingly. “Okay baby, but once we start getting closer to New York, let me drive okay? I know that it’s probably really hard to drive in the city,” he said, knowing that he couldn’t help being a little nervous since her car accident. “I know, I’m so excited, we’re going to find the perfect place. Sure, it might not be that big, but if I’m with you, then it will be home,” he whispered, glancing over at her with a small smile on his face. “Are we gonna check out our schools once we’re there? I’m sure you’re excited to see NYADA for the first time,” he told her, as they drove, knowing that he was excited to see his future school as well.

Shelby could feel that there was a slight awkwardness between the three of them and she hated that she had ever let things get this bad. She wanted to move forwards and fix things with Rachel, maybe they wouldn’t have the best relationship in the world, but she wanted to be able to talk to her daughter and not feel awkward, she wanted everything to be comfortable. There was an obvious tension that was in the air and she could see Finn getting protective over Rachel as they spoke and she hated that she had hurt Rachel so badly in the past that she had made her own daughter feel threatened by her. “Yes, that’s true,” she said softly when Rachel told her that they couldn’t really change what happened. There had to be a way for her to fix things between her and Rachel, she wanted to have a good relationship with her daughter, everything being awkward was making her feel incredibly guilty and she wanted to move on from the past and just start fresh, make things right this time around. “Of course,” she said when Rachel asked if she could excuse them for a moment. Shelby watched as they stepped away and were speaking to each other and she looked down awkwardly, wondering what they were speaking about. No matter what she was going to focus on fixing things with Rachel, she wasn’t going to give up or hurt her daughter anymore.

Rachel gave Finn a faint smile when he stepped closer to her protectively, making sure that Shelby didn’t make her too upset. As hard as everything with Shelby had been, at least they now knew how to handle things with her without Rachel getting hurt. They stepped away so that they could talk, she wanted support for her idea of inviting Shelby to the wedding in an effort to patch up their relationship. “I hope things get better, I want to try,” she told him. She nervously walked back over to Shelby with Finn, taking a deep breath before saying anything. “I was wondering if you wanted to come to the wedding. Beth could come too, we already have flower girls but we’ll find something for her to do. I want to see her before the wedding though, I don’t know what size it is and we need to get her a dress of some kind,” Rachel said, looking at the floor before finally gathering the courage to glance up at Shelby and meet her eyes. “I-I want to fix things. I don’t want to waste all my energy being angry anymore,” she said, giving her mother a small smile before looking nervously at Finn. Mr. Schuester came over to make sure everything was okay, and before she could say anything else to her mother Rachel was being whisked away to celebrate with the rest of glee club. “I’ll call you,” she told Shelby over her shoulder as she left.

“They will Rach, I think things will be different this time around,” Finn told her when she said that she wanted to try to fix things with Shelby. They walked back over to her and he took Rachel’s hand in his, lacing their fingers together when she invited Shelby to their wedding, a small smile on his face as he nodded in agreement. He knew that this definitely wasn’t going to be the easiest thing in the world but he was glad that Rachel was trying, especially because he knew how much she wanted to have a good relationship with her mom, that was all she had wanted all year long. When Rachel looked at him after she told Shelby that she didn’t want to waste all her energy being angry, he gave her a small smile, squeezing her hand gently as he looked at her with love in his eyes. Mr. Schuester came over and before they knew it they were being dragged away by the rest of the glee club so they could celebrate their new Nationals title. “I’m proud of you Rach, I think that things are going to work out with you two,” he said with a small smile, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek as they headed off with the rest of the glee club.

The fact that Jesse was still trying to hurt Rachel was enough for Shelby to know that she couldn’t let him do this to her daughter any longer. Once she told him off, she watched him storm off and she turned to Rachel and Finn, giving the both of them a slightly hesitant smile. “Oh, you don’t have to thank me, I’ve had enough of him,” she said with a sigh, feeling the slight tension that hung between the three of them. “You two were amazing up there on that stage tonight, definitely deserving the National title,” she said with a small smile, glancing down at the floor awkwardly. “I know that last time we saw each other that we weren’t on the best of terms, but I promise that I was only looking out for you. I don’t want him to ruin your wedding, I think that the both of you will make each other very happy,” Shelby said, looking mostly at Rachel, hoping that she could find a way to patch things up with her daughter somehow. “I truly am sorry for the way I treated you in that past, Rachel, I really am,” she said softly, looking down sadly. “I hope that we can start over again one day and try to have some sort of relationship,” she told Rachel, giving her daughter a small smile, wondering if she was ever going to be able to patch things up with Rachel again and just be able to carry a comfortable conversation.

Rachel watched Finn shove Jesse before he stormed off, and she walked over to Finn and Shelby to see what all the fuss was about. “You sure?” she asked Finn skeptically when he said that everything was okay now. When he thanked Shelby she looked at him with slight confusion, she didn’t really know what was going on and she felt a little lost in all the excitement of Nationals. “Thanks,” she said softly, looking at the floor, when Shelby told them that they performed amazingly and they really deserved the Nationals title. It was incredibly awkward, seeing her mother again when she didn’t think that would ever happen, but she was trying to make the most of it since it seemed like Shelby was taking her side. Her mother was finally being a mother and standing up for her. “Yeah, we weren’t,” she said when Shelby said that the last time they had seen each other they weren’t on the best of terms. She wanted to believe that her mother really was a good person, that she wouldn’t get hurt again. “I guess we can’t really change what happened,” she said with a sigh when her mother apologized for how she treated her in the past. Rachel nodded when Shelby said that she hoped some day in the future they could patch things up, she desperately wished that things could just get better, that she could have a good relationship with her mom. “Will you excuse us for a moment?” she asked, pulling Finn away. “We should try. If nothing else so I can see my adopted sister. With everything that’s happened with my dads and everything I just… I want to invite her to the wedding,” she told him. She wasn’t looking for approval so much as moral support, anything to do with her mom was still hard for her to deal with and she just hoped that she wasn’t making a big mistake.

Finn nodded when Rachel asked him if he was sure when she asked if everything was okay. Of course he was still incredible pissed off at Jesse and if he saw him again he was definitely going to kick the shit out of him, but he decided he wanted to focus on his fiance and the fact that they had just won Nationals. He took Rachel’s hand in his when Shelby said that they had performed amazingly. “Yeah, thanks,” he said, stepping slightly closer to Rachel protectively. Although it seemed like Shelby had good intentions, he knew that he could never be too sure with the other woman since she had a bad past with hurting Rachel. He could feel that it was awkward between the three of them and he wasn’t exactly sure what to say to Shelby, although he was happy that she was finally sticking up for Rachel. Finn wrapped his arm around Rachel gently when Shelby said that they hadn’t been on the best of terms last time they saw each other, wanting Rachel to know that he was there for her no matter what.  When Rachel asked for Shelby to excuse them, he followed her off to the side, giving her a small smile when she said that she wanted to try to start over again with Shelby and if nothing else she wanted to see Beth. “If you want her at the wedding, then that’s fine with me. I think it could be a good idea, I know things haven’t always been to great with you two, but she was trying to protect us and our relationship, maybe things really will get better, you know?” he said, looking at her with a small smile on his face.

Shelby hadn’t spoken to Rachel in the longest time, not since she had tried to warn her about Jesse trying to ruin Nationals and try to hurt her and she knew that she had to do something. She felt immense relief run through her body when the New Directions won, and she hurried backstage, hoping that Jesse wasn’t planning on doing anything else to rain on their parade. When she saw him, she started walking over to him and when she saw Finn walking over to him, definitely looking less then pleased she hurried over to try and intervene. Although she was definitely disappointed in Jesse, she didn’t exactly want him to get hurt and by the look on Finn’s face, she had a feeling that their conversation was heading in that direction. “Jesse! Haven’t you done enough?! Stop it! I already told you to stop trying to go after Rachel! I thought that it was just an innocent crush you still had on her or old harbored feelings at first, but a fake deferral letter to NYADA? That was horrible! You might have been like a son to me, but Rachel is my actual daughter and I won’t let you do this to her anymore!” Shelby said, looking at him angrily, not realizing that probably everyone backstage could hear what she was saying. “She’s going to try to marry this loser!” Jesse spat back, glaring at Finn before turning his attention back to Shelby. “Your daughter is obviously nothing! She has no taste in guys, she obviously will fail in New York just like you did!” he yelled, Shelby looking at him angrily. “Don’t talk about her like that! That’s my daughter. I doubt you’ll make it anywhere outside of Lima with your pompous attitude! If you have nothing nice to say about Rachel or Finn then you can get the hell out of here!” she said, glaring at him, knowing that she wasn’t going to stand for this anymore. She had done enough damage to Rachel and this time she was going to make things right again.

Rachel couldn’t believe that the New Directions had actually won Nationals, despite all the drama and conflict they won. When Finn lifted her in his arms after it was announced she shrieked happily, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. They went backstage, and her smile faded when she saw Jesse lurking in the shadows, that was the last person she wanted to see right now. “Okay, I’ll wait for you to do most of the celebrating,” she said when Finn told her that he’d be right back. When she saw Finn going over to Jesse, presumably to tell him off, she smirked, glad that she didn’t have to do it herself. She was a bit confused to see Shelby there too, especially given that she had nothing to do with any of the glee clubs competing. Deciding that she wanted to hear what looked to be Finn and Shelby ganging up on Jesse, she moved closer so that she could hear. It was indeed as things had appeared, Finn and Shelby defending her while Jesse insulted her. When Shelby started talking about her NYADA deferral letter her jaw dropped, she couldn’t believe that had been Jesse. Of course her mother hadn’t spoken to her since right after that, when she’d vaguely warned her about someone trying to ruin their wedding. Wait a minute. Jesse had been trying to ruin everything! He’d been trying to destroy her to the point that she’d go back to him or something twisted like that. Finally Jesse stormed off, leaving Finn and Shelby and a very shocked Rachel. “Is everything alright?” she asked, going over to Finn and standing close to him.

Finn was pissed off that St. Douchebag had to go around and try to ruin his Nationals with his fiance and he didn’t understand what the hell was wrong with him. When Shelby walked over to him and Jesse, he looked at her curiously, not even knowing why she was there. When she said something about a fake deferral letter, he looked from her to Jesse in shock. That had all been him! This was who Shelby had been trying to warn them about before, she had been trying to tell them that Jesse was attempting to ruin their wedding. When she told Jesse to get the hell out of here, he glared at the other boy, knowing that if he didn’t leave he was ten seconds away from kicking the shit out of him. “Yeah, get the fuck out of here asshole,” he said, giving Jesse a rough shove backwards, causing him to stumble slightly before he stormed off, obviously angry that his plans had been foiled. When Rachel asked if everything was alright, he wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close to him and pressing a gentle kiss to the top if her head. “Everything’s okay now Rach, don’t worry. Oh and um…thanks Shelby,” he said, giving her a small smile, still in slight shock at what she had said to Jesse. He couldn’t believe that the deferral letter had been a fake. Rachel had been so upset over it and even though she had gotten accepted eventually, he couldn’t believe that all of that heartbreak was because of that fucking asshole.

They won. They actually did it! Finn couldn’t believe that the New Directions had won Nationals and almost the second that it was announced, he wrapped his arms around Rachel and lifted her into his arms, pressing his lips against hers happily, knowing that she was the reason they won, she was perfect. Once they went backstage and he spotted Jesse St. Douchebag, he glared at him angrily. He didn’t miss that asshole trying to mess up their performance, messing with the weights on the curtains and trying to sabotage their performance. If he hadn’t been so determined to win, he would have beat the shit out of him right then and there. However, now they had won and Finn knew that he had to finally give this asshole what was coming to him. “I’ll be right back Rach,” he said, heading towards the asshole with anger on his face. “Guess even with you trying to fuck up our performance we were still better then Vocal Adrenaline,” he said, stepping closer to Jesse, glad that he could look down at him from his height, glaring at him. “Oh please, obviously you only won because the judges pitied your horrible performance, if you didn’t have Rachel you never would have stood a chance,” Jesse said, looking at him with that fucking annoying smug smile, he wanted to punch right off of his face. “I think you’re just jealous. You’re jealous that we won Nationals and you’re jealous that Rachel is mine,” he said, knowing that he was right just by the look on his face. Before he could say anything else, Shelby came over to them and he wondered what she was even doing there, looking from Jesse to Shelby curiously.

Rachel and Finn survived dinner with her dads, they were welcoming despite everything that had happened and apparently Rachel wasn’t grounded anymore since they said that they wanted both of them to stay. Leroy even apologized, and she smiled at Finn when he said that he was going to take good care of her in New York. “I think the loan we’re taking out in her name will likely cover some living expenses as well, the payments are only a few dollars a month so it’s affordable even once you two are done with college,” Leroy said. He felt bad that this was even an issue, he had never planned for his daughter to have to take out any loans to go to school, or to live in a small apartment. The plan was always that if she went to college before Broadway she’d have a big spacious apartment all to herself in the best neighborhood in the city, but things had gotten in the way and now her fiance was going to be helping her with money too. Once they were all done eating Rachel went upstairs with Finn, sitting down on her bed. “Why, because you know my dads never walk in on us and your mom has awful timing sometimes?” she asked him with a giggled when he told her that he missed her bed too. “I love you too,” she whispered, relaxing against him as they sat together. “Do you want to stay here tonight? I have to get my stuff from your house at some point but we could stay, you still have clothes here too,” she said.

Finn smiled when Leroy said that they were taking out a loan that would cover some living expenses as well and he was glad that although it wasn’t going to be the easiest thing in the world, that it was going to be possible for him to live with Rachel in the city and for them to go to school. He knew that he was going to take good care of Rachel, he was going to make sure that he had a good job to so that she could focus on reaching her dream, because that was what was important to him. Once they were done eating, he headed up to her room with her and he laughed when she asked him if he missed her bed because her dads didn’t walk in on just or because his mom had horrible timing. “Let’s never mention my mom walking in on us again, I’m so happy that she’s never seen us with our clothes off, but still, she just doesn’t know how to knock,” he said with a laugh, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close. “Of course I want to stay here, I feel like this is my home anyway since I’m always here,” he told her, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek, looking at her with love in his eyes. Finn was glad that they had fixed things with her dads and although he knew that they were still going through a money problem, he knew that hew as going to do his job and take care of Rachel as best as he could.

Rachel went into her house to talk to her dads, hoping that everything would go okay and they would be understanding about everything. She glanced back at Finn sitting in the truck before going inside, calling out to her dads before finding them in the living room. After a brief conversation most of the tensions seemed to dissolve, and she went out to the truck to get Finn to bring him inside for dinner. Once she explained what had happened he seemed completely relieved, and she shook her head when he asked if her dads really didn’t hate him. “They know you make me happy and that’s enough for them,” she told him. This way the tensions between them wouldn’t ruin the wedding, now she’d be able to have her dads walk her down the aisle and they’d be genuinely happy for her on their wedding day. His arms wrapped around her, and she smiled against his lips when he kissed her. “I love you too, let’s go inside before my dads make a snide comment about making out in front of the neighbors,” she said with a slight laugh before taking his hand and heading inside with him. Her dads greeted them at the door, wrapping both of them in hugs before taking them into the dining room. They all sat down to dinner, which Hiram soon brought to the table, and Rachel managed to eat amongst all the small talk between her dads and Finn. Eventually Leroy cleared his throat, and Rachel looked at her father nervously. “I just wanted to apologize for what we said about you Finn, I assume you’ve heard by now that we’re having some financial difficulties and we were trying to avoid discussing them with Rachel. Obviously we’re glad that you’re going to be a part of the family soon, but unfortunately people sometimes act badly in tough situations,” he said, and Rachel breathed a sigh of relief. They all finished dinner, and Rachel took Finn up to her room. “I’ve missed my bed so much,” she told him, sitting down on it and smiling at him.

Finn smiled when Rachel told him that her dads knew that he made her happy and that was enough for them. He wrapped his arms around her and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips and when she said that she wanted to go inside before her dads made a comment about them making out in front of the neighbors, he laughed, nodding in agreement before following her inside. When they walked into her house and her dads greeted the both of them with hugs, he felt a lot better, glad that he felt welcomed by her dads again, letting  out a small sigh of relief when he walked into the dining room. They all sat down for dinner and he ate happily as they all talked, glad that everything felt back to normal again. He wanted her dads to be at their wedding, he wanted them to support them and he was happy that they were all okay. When Leroy cleared his throat, Finn looked at him nervously, hoping that he hadn’t said anything wrong. He smiled when Leroy apologized to him, happy that he said he was glad that he was going to be a part of their family soon. “I understand, I know that you’re in a tough situation. I promise that I’m going to take good care of Rachel, I know that living in New York is expensive and everything, but I’ll make sure that we’re okay so you don’t have to worry too much about us,” he said with a small smile, knowing that he didn’t want her dads worried that she might not have someone to help her out while living there. Once they were all done eating, Finn went up to Rachel’s room with her and when she said that she missed her bed, he smiled, sitting down next to her and wrapping his arms around her tightly. “I missed it too,” he said, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. “I love you,” he told her, knowing that there was nothing else he meant more then that.

Rachel nodded when Finn said that he hoped there was something that could fix her dads’ money problem. “There is, baby, they’ll figure it out. I’m pretty sure this is a new thing,” she told him. “I still didn’t need to be so mean to them. I don’t regret how I treated my cousin though, he had it coming,” she told him. They drove back to his house once he was finished packing for her, and all she wanted to do was cuddle. She curled up in his laps and let her head fall against his shoulder, and they just stayed like that for awhile, him holding her tightly to make her feel a little better. After some time had passed she knew that her dads would be home, so she asked him to drive her to her house. “That sounds good, then I can make a quick exit if I have to. I know things will be fine eventually but this could be a difficult conversation,” she said. She got up and followed him to the truck, not letting go of his hand the whole drive to her house. Her dads’ cars were both parked outside, and she took a deep calming breath. “I love you too, I will,” she said, checking if she had her phone before kissing him softly and getting out of the truck. She went into her house and took a deep breath. “I’m home,” she called out before finding her dads in the living room. “Look, I know what’s going on and why you acted the way you did. I’m sorry that you’re having money problems but I won’t stand to have my fiance disrespected like that,” she said, taking a seat next to Hiram on the couch. Leroy put down his paper and sighed sadly. “I don’t know how you found out, but yes, money is tight right now. Don’t worry, your college fund is intact, but that’s about all that is. The good news is that we’ll be receiving an inheritance soon from your great-aunt’s estate, it’s just taking some time to sort out the paperwork. That wasn’t how things were supposed to happen, I guess we just got desperate and you being with your cousin seemed like an easy way out,” Leroy said with a sigh. Rachel nodded slowly, she still couldn’t exactly agree with their reasoning but she could understand why they did what they did. “He thinks you hate him,” she said softly. Hiram shook his head. “We could never hate him, we were just offering you an alternative, I guess, but you’ve made your point that you won’t have anyone else. We know that he makes you happy, so we won’t be doing anything to get in the way of your relationship anymore,” Hiram said, giving Leroy a pointed look. “Please come home Rachel, the house seems empty without you - or you and Finn - being here all the time, even if you’re usually up in your room it’s nice to know that someone’s here. And have Finn come over for dinner so we can apologize,” Leroy said. Rachel sighed before saying anything, just trying to take all of this in. “He’s outside, he can stay for dinner tonight, just let me go talk to him,” she said, and her dads nodded in unison before she headed out to the truck. She opened the passenger door. “Hey, they want me to stay, but they want you to stay too. They don’t hate you, it sounds like they both feel really bad about what happened. They want us to have dinner with them so they can apologize,” she told him, gesturing for him to get out of the car.

“Yeah your cousin was a creep, I mean you’re family, that’s weird,” Finn said with a slight laugh when Rachel said that she didn’t regret how she treated her stomach. Once they were back at his house he held her tightly in his arms, knowing that what she needed right now was just to relax in his arms so they could be together. He nodded when she told him that her conversation with her dads could be difficult, although he hoped desperately that it wasn’t because he just wanted her to be okay, he just wanted everything to be okay. Once she was ready to go they went out to his truck when they pulled up at her house he saw that her dads were home and he gave her a small smile, knowing that he didn’t want her to be too nervous over this. He sighed contently against her lips as she pressed them gently against his, watching as she got out of her car and headed inside of her house, swallowing nervously once she was out of his sight. Finn hoped desperately that her dads didn’t hate him because all he wanted to do was make her feel better, he wanted to be a part of her life and he wanted her dads to be a part of her life too, he hated that there was a chance he could be the one getting in the way of that. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel of his truck, glancing towards Rachel’s house and sighing, hoping that everything was going okay. Once he saw her making her way out of her house and towards him, he gave her a small smile, letting out a small sigh of relief when she said that her dads wanted her to stay, but they wanted him to stay too. “They don’t?” he asked her, letting out a sigh of relief when she said that her dads didn’t hate him. Finn felt a weight lift off of his shoulders knowing that her dads didn’t hate him, glad that she could have him and her dads. He got out of the car and wrapped his arms around her tightly, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips. “I love you,” he said, looking at her with a small smile on his face before taking her hand in his, lacing their fingers together and walking into the house. He looked down nervously as they walked into the house, even though he knew that her dads didn’t hate him, he still felt slightly nervous just thinking about the fact that they might not think he was good enough to take care of Rachel.

Rachel clung to Finn once she told him that her family was having money problems, she hated that her dads hadn’t told her but she knew that it was probably hard for them to admit. She needed to talk to her dads on her own, which she was dreading, but she knew that from here things could only get better. “You don’t have to do that. You already pay almost all the time when we go out, I have some money saved up in addition to what’s for the wedding. My dads wouldn’t accept money anyways, they’re too proud unless they literally couldn’t eat without help,” she told him. She didn’t want Finn having to take responsibility for this, especially when it wasn’t even her responsibility. Her dads had kept this from her for a reason, which in her mind was to make sure that she didn’t feel like she had to do anything about it. “I don’t feel guilty that we’re poor, I feel guilty for being a brat when they had reasons for what they did,” she told him, sighing against his lips when he kissed her. When he said they could go relax at his house for a little bit she nodded, taking his hand and going out to the truck with him. They drove back to his house, and once they were there all she wanted to do was cuddle with him for awhile, curling up in his lap and letting him hold her close. “I just wish they’d told me,” she said softly, her head falling against his shoulder. After awhile she realized that her dads would be home, and she sighed, knowing that it was going to be easier if she just went and talked to them instead of procrastinating. “Can you drive me back to my house?” she asked him, looking at him nervously.

Finn sighed, but nodded when Rachel told him that he didn’t need to get another job, although there was still a part of him that still desperately wanted to help her. “I just hope that there’s something that can fix this,” he said, knowing that all he wanted to do was make everything okay again. When she told him that she felt guilty about being a brat, he shook his head, holding her closely. “Rach, you didn’t know why they were doing what they were doing, you can’t feel guilty when you have no idea, it’s not your fault,” he said softly, knowing that the last thing he ever wanted was for her to feel bad. Once he was done packing for her, he drove her back to his house, knowing that she was worried about the conversation that she was going to have with her dads. When they were back at his house, he held her tightly in his arms, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head when she curled up in his lap and rested her head against his shoulder. “I know baby,” he said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek, hoping desperately that everything was going to be okay. After a while of him holding her closely in his arms, he knew that her dads were probably home and when she asked him if he could drive her back to her house, he nodded. “Of course I can baby. I’ll wait outside for you if you want me to. Everything is gonna be fine, okay?” he said softly, knowing that he was going to do whatever it took to make things okay again. Finn took her hand in his and led her back out to his truck, his hand holding hers tightly the entire way back to her house. Once they were there, he saw her dads cars parked in the driveway and he turned to her, giving her a small smile. “It’s gonna be okay baby, I promise. I love you so much, I’ll be right here if you need me, just tell me if you need me,” he said, looking at her with love in his eyes before pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.
